What it is

Cameras can show you what happened. An intruder detection system is there to raise the alert when someone enters a protected area. Door and window contacts, motion detectors, glass-break sensors, and panic buttons connect to a control panel. When the system is armed and a sensor is triggered, it can sound a siren and alert a keyholder or monitoring service. One panel can also manage separate areas, so a store room can stay armed while reception stays open.

What it covers

  1. Assess the site, its entry points, and the level of risk.
  2. Plan detectors, areas, keypads, sirens, and how alerts reach the right people.
  3. Install, program, and test each detector with the people who will use the system.
  4. Link compatible cameras so that alerts can be checked against video.
